How does a Claim work?

Knowing what to expect reduces anxiety. Here we explain the process step by step.

1

Report

Contact the insurer (or us) to notify the incident. You get a claim number.

2

Adjuster

An adjuster will contact you to inspect the damage (vehicle or property) and review coverage.

3

Estimate

The repair budget is approved. If it's a car, it can be at a network shop.

4

Resolution

The insurer issues the payment (to you or the shop/contractor) minus your applicable deductible.

Direct Carrier Contacts

Have an emergency outside office hours? Contact your company's claims department directly.

Prevention and Savings

🏠

Prepare Your Home for Hurricanes

Checking the roof and securing windows not only protects your home but can generate large discounts on your property policy (Wind Mitigation Credit).

🚘

Teen Drivers

Enrolling your children in defensive driving courses and maintaining good grades can significantly reduce the impact on your premium.

💧

Water Damage Prevention

Water damage is the most common claim in Florida. Installing leak sensors and knowing where the main water shut-off valve is located is vital.

Insurance Dictionary

What is the Deductible?

It is the amount of money you must pay out of pocket before the insurer covers the rest of the damages. For example, if you have $2,000 in damage and your deductible is $500, the insurer will pay $1,500. Choosing a higher deductible usually lowers your monthly payment.

What is PIP (Personal Injury Protection)?

In Florida, it is mandatory. It covers 80% of your medical expenses and 60% of lost wages if you have an accident, regardless of who was at fault (No-Fault Law). The standard limit is $10,000.

Liability Coverage?

It is the coverage that pays for damages you cause to other people (their cars or their health) in an accident where you were at fault. It does not cover your own damages.

Comprehensive vs Collision?

'Collision' covers crashes against other cars or objects. 'Comprehensive' covers damages that are NOT crashes: theft, fire, vandalism, hail, flooding, or hitting an animal.

What is Wind Mitigation?

It is an inspection for homes in Florida that certifies how resistant your roof and windows are against hurricanes. Keeping it updated can save you thousands of dollars on your home insurance.
